St. Maria Goreti Catholic Church in Salacgrīva

+0
The church was built in 1997. The architect is D. Straubergs, the long-standing chairman of the Salacgrīva Municipality Council (now chairman of the Limbaži Municipality Council).

The altar cross with the image of Christ was made by sculptor Jānis Bārda. The wall mosaics "Marija Goreti" and "Vaclav's Bridge" was made by Mairita Folkmane. 27 July 1997 will be remembered for a long time, because on that day the new Catholic church was consecrated by Archbishop Jānis Pujats.

The Salacgrīva Council played a big role for building the church. The church started to be built during the time of the Council Chairman Mr. Jānis Ramats, but the new town Chairman Mr. Uldis Pūsilds helped to finish it.

The church was designed by Dagnis Straubergs. The cross and Christ image on the high altar were made by the artist Jānis Bārda. The mosaic dedicated to Marija Goreti was made by Marita Folkmane.

Church services are held every first Sunday of the month and the Saturday before the third Sunday of the month at 15:00.
