The Icon of Our Lady of Tikhvin
One of the most notable Orthodox Church hierarchs of the 20th century, Jānis (Garklāvs), was associated with the Orthodox parish of Limbaži. He became the Bishop of Riga during the difficult wartime years, and in 1944, he left Latvia, taking with him the miraculous icon of Our Lady of Tikhvin to keep it safe. After his death, his adoptive son, Archpriest Sergius Garklāvs, returned the miraculous icon to Tikhvin in 2004. At that time, a copy of the Our Lady of Tikhvin icon from the Transfiguration of Christ Church in Limbaži was taken to Riga and placed next to the original miraculous image.
Among the sacred treasures of the Limbaži Transfiguration of Christ Church, along with the Our Lady of Tikhvin icon, the icons of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker and Saint Alexander Nevsky are especially revered. Additionally, the icon of the Holy Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon, sent from Mount Athos, from the Panteleimon Monastery, holds a special place of honor.
