Memorial stone to Janis Asars
The memorial stone to Jānis Asars was unveiled on 7 July 2006 at the 80th anniversary event of the town of Ainaži.
The memorial stone for Jānis Asars was unveiled on July 7, 2006, during the 80th anniversary celebration of the city of Ainaži. Many Ainaži residents attended the event. With his energy, knowledge, and patriotism, Jānis Asars achieved the granting of city status to Ainaži. Jānis Asars was the first mayor of Ainaži. Here, in the Asars' garden, there was once a very beautiful house and garden. Today, only the foundations of the veranda remain. In 1941, the deportation path to Siberia began here for several Ainaži residents, including the Asars family. During the retreat of the Germans in World War II, the house was burned down.
The author of the memorial stone is sculptor Kārlis Īle. At the moment of unveiling, the artist said, "Every life has two sides: one is what is given to a person in the cradle, what is put in their chest, so I left one side of the stone completely natural. The other is what the person accomplishes in life. And in the middle of it all – a heart like a rose." The stone itself was found among those brought for the harbor restoration works.
The residents of Ainaži are pleased with the sculptor's work, as Jānis Asars deserves to have his memory immortalized in the city's history.
