Green Railways: Lāde - Aloja
Enjoy an exciting journey along the Green Railways, which once were lively railway routes and have now transformed into peaceful trails winding through picturesque landscapes and dense forests.
The route can be started from the Skulte railway station, from which a train operates to/from Riga. The first few kilometers from Skulte station, where the Rail Baltica high-speed railway will be built, are not marked or accessible. We recommend following cycling route 109 (marked in nature) to reach Lāde.
The route section Lāde–Aloja follows the former Skulte–Rūjiena railway line from Lāde station through Limbaži to Aloja station, and enthusiasts can continue the trail all the way to Estonia. The route and its connecting segments are marked in nature using railway sleepers. Information stands along the route provide insights into railway history and nearby points of interest. Between Lāde station and Limbaži, visitors can stop at N. Bomja Bakery "Lielezers" and view the Mucenieki Bridge. Between Limbaži and Puikule, visitors can see Lake Katvari, Katvari Manor Park, and the "Priedītes" farm, where they can pet and feed rabbits, sheep, pygmy goats, Irish Tinker horses, and observe various colored cows. Horse rides and picnic areas are available.

Nabe Castle was a 14th-century vassal castle of the Archbishopric of Riga, built in the ancient territory of Metsepole by Lake Lāde. The Limbaži–Turaida road passed by it. To this day, the castle tower has been preserved near the later-built Nabe Manor.
