Liepupe Evangelical Lutheran Church

Liepupe (Pernigele) Church is located in Jelgavkrasti, it was built between 1777 and 1783.
The church is unusual because of the peculiar position of the bell tower - on the side. The altar is therefore not at the side of the church, but in the middle; the pulpit is above the altar and the pastor is in the middle of the congregation during the service. On 29 November 1971, a fire broke out in the church, burning the Baroque church furnishings, the organ and the archives. In 1989, the restoration of Liepupe Church was the idea of poet Imants Ziedonis. On 22 May 1999, the restored church was consecrated.
