In 1868, the organ was installed, crafted by August Martin (1808–1891). In 1875, the church was rebuilt and expanded by adding the altar room and two sacristies (700 seats), due to rot discovered in the building. The church bell was cast in 1910.
It is believed that "Baznīckalniņš" (Church Hill), located in the center of Vilķene behind the “Pabērzi” homestead, marks the site of the very first Vilķene church.
Pastors:
1913–1919: Vicar Theodor Scheipflug (1862–1919) from the Liepupe parish, killed by Bolsheviks (14.03.1919).
1930–1944: Arnolds Kārlis Birznieks (b. 1903 – died in the USA).
